This simple and elegant mob elevator design could become an essential component of your Minecraft 1.13 worlds; the design by /u/Icohedron is simple, scalable and uses very little in the way of resources. In fact the design is completely iceless.

The design relies on the new water column mechanic in Minecraft 1.13, specifically the use of soul sand to create a water column with upwards vertical momentum. You can see the full design in action here:

As you can see the design is effortlessly simple, requiring just a few water source blocks, wood and a single block of soul sand. This means the toughest part of the design will be a quick trip to the nether to grab the soul sand. That puts the design at diamond level tools in terms of game difficulty – but I’d imagine most players are there within just 1-2 hours of a new world anyway. I know I am at least.

A few notes about the mob water elevator design:

* Don’t worry about Zombies becoming Drowned in this design. A Zombies eye level needs to be submerged below water for at least 30 seconds…and…
* The design can scale from bedrock to world build height and move a mob vertically upwards, faster than that 30 second time limit
* The design could happily be used by a plater on Multiplayer servers as an anti-AFK kicker machine, again with minimal resources
* Here’s a slight design tweak in case you’re getting baby mobs stuck at the bottom.
