Hot off the press, err keyboard, today – Minecraft 1.13 snapshot 18W16A. It’s a rather modest update that crushes a few bugs and tweaks a few elements of the impending release. The major addition in this release is the new Buffet Worlds option when creating a new world in Single Player.

This oddly named feature essentially allows the player create a world with one single Biome. I say oddly named as I’m pretty sure the last buffet I went to allowed me to select more than one item, but hey ho. Feels like something lost in translation.

Also worthy of note is that Mojang took note of the ultra boat speed previously available with Blue Ice and boats. In the previous update a bomb of the two allowed block travel at 140 blocks per second! Fast enough to crash many players game instances. The Blue Ice now only gives a marginal speed boost over Packed Ice. This was confirmed by the ever reliable Xisuma on Reddit:

I tested boats on ice to see there speeds.
200 blocks on packed ice = 7.30 (seven n half) seconds.
200 blocks on blue ice = 6.30 (six n half) seconds

It’s a shame that Blue Ice Boat speed was nerfed so dramatically, but hey, it’s still a little faster than regular Packed Ice which is something. This should at least help SMP servers, where chunk loading at speed can cause huge lag.

Blue ice is now ever-so-slightly less slippery than before. Still pretty slippery!
When water spreads and would later turn into a source block, it now immediately just places a source block
We changed how we calculate the temperature of ocean biomes, which should result in nicer transitions between oceans
Mining coral blocks now requires silk touch
Changed particle effect from the Conduit
Optimized spawn position finding code
Technical: there’s now a distinction between scheduled “liquid ticks” and “block ticks”
Technical: there’s new block & item tags for coral
Lots of bug fixes!

You can check it out when creating a new world by selecting Buffet World as a world type
As a side bonus, we also threw in another way to generate chunks in there
